It is the 4 April 1968. Four years after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for his dynamic leadership of the Civil Rights movement, Martin Luther King was assassinated. Set on the night of his shooting in a Tennessee motel room. Dream of A King is a new solo play about Martin Luther King Jnr and the Civil Rights movement in 1960's America. Today, 51 years since his murder we find ourselves facing the same issues and demanding respect and honour. This is the perfect time to revisit Martin’s speeches and philosophy on poverty in order to stimulate debate and challenge these forces that try to threaten, suppress, extinguish and stifle communities, cultures, and races. Resistance Theatre Company seeks to present stories of the oppressed and victimized irrespective of race, gender or nationality. Many of the issues which Martin fought against such as racial injustice and inequality remain challenges that today’s societies must continue to fight against.
